Nicotine, a chemical which makes smokers addicted to cigarettes is a stimulant with properties similar to cocaine and amphetamines. Increases heart rate, blood pressure and respiration, and makes the smoker feel more alert. Unfortunately these effects wear off after 20 minutes or so and the smoker begins to feel desire and other sensations.

Acetaldehyde and carbon monoxide, sedatives
Acetaldehyde, a byproduct of both cigarette smoke and alcohol, has sedative properties. Carbon monoxide in cigarettes makes you feel tired, as you would be in a room without enough air. These substances may help some people to reduce tension, anger or strong emotions.

Other psychological effects
For many, the act of smoking itself becomes a comforting ritual. The smoker wrapped in a fantasy that relieves feelings of boredom and stress. Smoking can go hand in hand with other activities such as drinking alcohol or coffee or dessert. These factors are why quitting smoking involves more than getting rid of the nicotine habit.

There are a number of tips to avoid falling into temptation and being overcome by anxiety:

* Doing more sport (walking, running, gym, cycling, hiking …) and stay less indoors where there may be smoke.
* Do not start any scheme at the same time, contrary to eat well and almost everything to avoid starvation: eat many carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables (for vitamins, is important to take Vitamin C) and eat everything: meat, fish , chicken, … but boiled or grilled or baked, remove the fat and fried.
* Search-fat products, raw vegetables, juices, fruits, yogurts … to eat when one is tempted to eat or smoke. The fruit can replace the craving for something sweet and sugarless candies also entertain.
* Consumer products, which help to recover the body of smoking as soon as possible, by their content: omega-3s, B vitamins, carotenoids, such as: whole grains, watercress them, oily fish, carrots, and wheat germ.
* There are several products on the pharmacy to help pass the nicotine addiction that occurs: as the nozzles menthol, patches, gum, tea …
* Breathe deeply and air fill the abdomen helps remove the anxiety.
* Drink plenty of water between meals and a glass before meals, reduces appetite.
* Do not drink alcohol because it contains many calories, which is at those moments do not make us any fault and besides, we create more anxiety for the quick exit of nicotine produced by the influence of alcohol.

Quit smoking and weight gain

According to some studies on smoking, it was found that the fact, to be fattening to quit is because they eat more and not the very act of removing the snuff. In addition, fat is often about 2 Kg., That a year or so of quitting, are lost. So, on this basis, we know that if we stop smoking while we control our diet, do not get fat.

Anyway we have to say that some people do not gain weight from quitting smoking and are getting fatter because they have already weight problems, they hide food by replacing snuff.
